Past, Present, Future

By Kevin

This self-portrait is more than an image—it’s a deeply personal reflection on life’s trials, choices, and the hope that lies ahead. Every element in this digital artwork holds symbolic meaning, weaving together a narrative of conflict, resilience, and optimism.

At the heart of the piece, the crystal ball represents the past, particularly a time of great conflict. It symbolizes the pain and loss of a divorce when everything felt like it was slipping away. The lightning, a dramatic force in both the background and mirrored within the crystal ball, asks a haunting question: If I knew then what I know now, would I make the same choices?

Facing to the right, I’m looking toward the future, with my open palm extended to the viewer—a gesture of transparency, showing I have nothing to hide. On the horizon to the right, there’s a glow—is it a sunrise or a sunset? The answer is deliberately ambiguous, reminding us that endings and beginnings are often intertwined. If you look closely, you’ll see a demon in front of the sun, a subtle reminder of how we create our own barriers and fears that dim our inner light.

The waves and jagged rocks in the foreground represent the feeling of being “washed up” on the shores of life, battered by storms and uncertainty. Further out on the horizon, a lone island symbolizes the isolation of feeling like a castaway, adrift and without support.

But amidst the storm and solitude, there is hope. The shooting star high above signifies optimism, the belief that even in the darkest times, there’s always a glimmer of light guiding us forward.

“Past, Present, Future” is a reflection of resilience and introspection, a piece that acknowledges the struggles of life while embracing the possibilities of what lies ahead. Every symbol invites you to look deeper and find your own meaning within the artwork.
