Creating “Past, Present, Future” was a deeply personal journey for me—a self-portrait that delves into the trials I’ve faced, the choices I’ve made, and the hope I hold for the future. Each element in this digital artwork is rich with symbolism, weaving together a narrative of conflict, resilience, and optimism.
The process began with a series of photographs. I set up my camera and lighting to capture the initial idea, posing to reflect the introspective and forward-looking themes I wanted to convey. These photos served as the foundation upon which the painting would evolve.
As I developed the piece, it naturally grew to include more symbols representing different facets of my life. At the heart of the composition is a crystal ball, symbolizing the past—a time of great conflict and reflection. The lightning within and behind the crystal ball poses a haunting question: If I knew then what I know now, would I have made the same choices?
In the portrait, I face toward the right, symbolizing a gaze into the future, with an open palm extended to the viewer—a gesture of transparency and honesty. On the horizon, a glow—ambiguous as either sunrise or sunset—reminds us that endings and beginnings are often intertwined. A subtle demon figure near the sun represents the self-created barriers and fears that can obscure our inner light.
The foreground features waves crashing against jagged rocks, depicting the tumultuous challenges of life, while a distant island on the horizon signifies feelings of isolation and being adrift. Yet, amidst this stormy scene, a shooting star high above stands as a beacon of hope and optimism, suggesting that even in the darkest times, there’s always a guiding light forward.
“Past, Present, Future” is more than just a self-portrait; it’s a reflection on resilience and introspection, acknowledging life’s struggles while embracing the possibilities ahead. Through this piece, I invite viewers to find their own meanings and reflections within the symbols presented.
