Sketching Time: The Imps, The World, and a Story Decades in the Making

By Kevin

Lately, I’ve been diving into a project that’s been with me far longer than I realized. Back in the ‘80s, when I was at art college, the first spark of this world took root, just a few scattered ideas, sketches, and notes. But over time, that spark grew. It evolved in my mind, taking on shape, history, and depth. Now, I find myself here, decades later, finally putting pencil to paper to bring it all to life.

These sketches are the first steps into that world in a very long time, the imps. They’re not just mischievous little creatures lurking in the shadows. In this world, they have a role, a purpose. Maybe they are tricksters, guides, or even keepers of secrets. There’s something in their eyes, clever, knowing, as if they’ve watched time twist and turn in ways we can’t comprehend.

But the imps are just the beginning. I’ll be sketching fairies, goblins, and many more characters in the coming weeks, each with their own place in this world’s story. Their relationships with time, nature, and each other are still unfolding in my head, but I already sense a deep intertwining of order and chaos, wisdom and folly, birth and entropy.

This isn’t just about character design; it’s about world-building, a universe that has lived in my thoughts for so long, waiting to be given form. And now, piece by piece, it’s coming to life.
