Artwork Description
Regardless of circumstance, we are always surrounded by beauty. A journey of renewal, a self-portrait, is a pivotal artwork given my life’s journey to date. Full of symbolism and meaning the artwork depicts my thoughts at the point in time it was created.
From the placement of the figure on the canvas, just over halfway which hints at my age and being possibly over halfway through my life, to my personal daemon which stopped my light shining for many years. How insignificant we are in the scheme of things given the vastness of space to wishing for a better future. Being my own island and literally looking to a better future are just a few of the symbols used to tell my story.
This artwork symbolically illustrates my determination to defeat adversity on my journey. If I were given a crystal ball would it change my future for the better? When all is said and done I value integrity and trust.
